Step 1: Introducing You to our Division

Send Us Your Picture and Bio

Use the introduction template below as a guide to writing your introduction.

 

We will e-mail your bio and picture to all personnel in the division as your formal introduction and will add your information to our website. E-mail your completed bio and picture to Jim Nix ([email protected]) prior to your first day. We will provide a final edit to your bio before sending.

Step 2: Submit Emergency Contact

DHM Emergency Contact Form

Fill out the DHM Emergency Contact Form. This information remains within the Division and is used to contact those you have listed in an emergency situation and to complete the UCSF Emergency Action Plan for our Division.

 

Step 3: Obtaining Acess to DHM

Keys and Door Codes

On your first day, Jim Nix will give you keys and door codes (when applicable).

 

Step 4: Identification Badges and Email

UCSF Identification Badge

You will obtain your UCSF ID Badge by visiting the UCSF Police Department located at Parnassus or Mission Bay by appointment only. You must wait until after your first day to obtain a new ID badge. Be sure to take your government issued identification with you to verify your identity. This ID badge must be worn above your waist while on any UCSF or ZSFG campus.

 

ZSFG Identification Badge

ZSFG ID Badges are issued to paid employees via an authorization letter provided by our Division, which will be provided in person by Jim Nix. You will need this badge to access to secure doors around the perimeters of the buildings.

 

Take this letter, along with a government issued ID, to the ZSFG Human Resource Department during their office hours:

• M, W, F between 10:00 AM – 10:30 AM

• T, TH between 2:30 PM – 3:00 PM

 

This ID badge must be worn above your waist while on any UCSF or ZSFG campus.

 

UCSF Email Address Set-up

Your new email address and IT account have been requested by Human Resources. Once your IT account is established, IT will email you instructions to your personal email to set up your password within your first week. The Division Administrative Officer will request access to the lab shared drives and folders as needed.

 

Step 5: Attend Orientations

UCSF Orientation

All new paid employees working for UCSF are required to attend the UCSF Benefits Orientation. Human Resources provides a recorded New Employee Orientation (NEO) for campus staff, academic and postdoc new employees. The link to the presentation will be provided to you in your post welcome email on your first day of work. The presentation includes important information and resources for new hires such as Navigating and using UCPath, HBS timekeeping, Benefits enrollment, UCSF’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion efforts to create a safe, welcoming environment. 

 

Additionally, you will receive information about optional drop-in Q&A sessions to be held twice a month via Zoom. These sessions are hosted by HR generalists and provide an opportunity for new hires to ask questions and get support from HR in real time to aid you in your onboarding process. You will continue to be directed to attend a UCPath Benefits Webinar to learn more and ask questions about UC’s robust benefits program.

 

ZSFG New Employee Orientation

All new UCSF employees working at Zuckerberg San Francisco General are asked to complete the online ZSFG New Employee Orientation http://zsfglearn.org/orientation/online-orientation/.

 

Step 6: Complete New Employee Health Requirements

All employees in our Division are required to complete the following health requirements:

  • TB screening
  • Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella vaccination or titer records
  • Influenza vaccination record
  • Health screening through UCSF Occupational Health

Step 7: Complete Mandatory Trainings

Sexual Harassment Prevention Training

All employees are required to take the Mandatory Sexual Harassment Prevention Training and education program. Information and link to the website and training may be found here: https://sexualviolence.ucsf.edu/education-training. Please email [email protected] once you have completed the online training.

Step 8: Directions for Your First Day

Getting here and getting started is the first big step!

 

Jim Nix will reach out to schedule your first day activities including obtaining your ZSFG ID badge, computer/lab set-up, and other first day activities.

 

Step 9: Apply for UCSF Staff Housing

UCSF Housing Services’ mission is to provide housing and related services to Students, Postdocs, Residents, Clinical Fellows, Faculty, and Staff. They offer a variety of housing options, locations, amenities, and communities for you.

  • They offer 5-year term limits.
  • UCSF Housing Services determines applicant eligibility.
  • Any changes to eligibility status during the Agreement term will be reviewed. Unfortunately, tenants may be deemed ineligible if disaffiliating unless they are transferring to another eligible UCSF affiliated category.
